Danielle conoce muy bien el concepto de "infierno" en cuanto a refugios de animales, ha visto demasiados, pero éste sería algo especial. Conoce su historia aquí!

Cada vez que Danielle se acerca para conocer un nuevo refugio o revisar las condiciones en las que se encuentra, habitualmente siempre adopta uno o dos animales de cada lugar al que va, pero ésta vez no sería igual...

Ella es co-fundadora de Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary y ha visitado un sinnúmero de refugios de animales en todo el mundo y a menudo adopta animales en las condiciones más extremas y los transforma de formas increíbles, dándole una nueva oportunidad de vida, en el refugio ubicado en King, Ontario, ocupando 50 acres de puro amor.

Pero todo lo que había visto antes, no la había preparado para lo que vería en éste refugio que tuvo ocasión de visitar en Israel, en enero pasado...

Cada perro del lugar se encontraba en una situación terrible. "Es el peor refugio que he visto en toda mi vida"

Más de 250 animales estaban hacinados en el recinto que estaba diseñado para solo 70 animales, las ratas abundaban vivas y muertas regadas por el suelo. Muchos de los pequeños habían pasado años allí, algunos casi toda su vida... el hambre era tanta que cada trozo de pan que la gente les arrojaba era una invitación a pelearse entre sí, desesperados.

"Los perros estaban literalmente matándose por una barra de pan (...) había más ratas que perros"

De hecho, las ratas muertas se mezclaban con las vivas, que a su vez se mezclaban con los perros que se esforzaban por sobrevivir en aquellas condiciones largos años.

Una vez que inspeccionó ésta sórdida escena, Danielle no pudo elegir cuáles de aquellos inocentes perros tendría la oportunidad de una nueva vida. Todos estaban viviendo en la miseria más absoluta... todos lo merecían por igual

Respiró hondo, hizo un par de llamadas telefónicas y decidió rescatarlos a TODOS.

Desde ese momento Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary asumió la responsabilidad de todos los 250 animales de aquel terrible lugar y durante los últimos dos meses, luego de la decisión de hacerse cargo del mega rescate y una enorme logística, han logrado ubicar 90 adopciones dentro de Israel, mientras otros 25, han hecho el viaje al Santuario en Ontario para allí encontrar un hogar y los 150 restantes aún están en el lugar PERO no en las mismas condiciones, porque la ONG de Danielle, comenzó junto con voluntarios israelíes, a realizar reformas importantes en el lugar para darles condiciones dignas de vida mientras esperan un hogar.

El lugar que prácticamente era un almacén de animales, ahora cuenta con veterinario que les ofrece atención, se ha construido un suelo sólido que ya no se llena de barro, se ha desratizado, fumigado y los pequeños ya no pelean por comida.

El objetivo es llevar éstos 150 a Canadá para facilitar su adopción y dejar el refugio en condiciones y con un equipo que sepa cuidar dignamente los animales, para dar espacio a otros que pudieran necesitar estar allí por un tiempo.

Y la misión de amor ha tenido un comienzo estupendo. De los 25 que viajaron a Canadá, ya más de la mitad han sido adoptados!

Israel Shelter Project
We would like to take a moment to fill everyone in on an enormous project that we have taken on here at Dog Tales. The creation of our entire shelter was inspired by four incredible dogs that were rescued from the streets of Israel. In honour of this, our founders regularly travel to Israel to find dogs in need and bring them back to Canada for a second chance at a happy life. On our trips to Israel we visit local shelters and work with the staff and volunteers to make lists of 10-20 dogs at a time to bring to our rescue. On these trips we look for the difficult cases- dogs that are senior, dogs that have disabilities, and dogs that have been waiting for a home the longest. Making these lists is gut wrenching , however it is usually quite clear which dogs need our help the most.Earlier in the year we were taken to a shelter in Israel that we had never been to before. The conditions were shocking. To say that the shelter was overcrowded is an understatement, with more than 250 dogs crammed into a space with the capacity for 70. There were as many as 6 dogs in each cage, all fighting over the loaves of bread that they were being fed. Rats were everywhere, and the dogs, most of whom had been there for years, were terrified. For once, it was not obvious to us which dogs needed us the most. They all needed us. We realized that it would be impossible to make a list deciding which dogs would be rescued from this horrific life, and which would be left behind. We then made the decision to acquire the entire shelter, and take responsibility for all 250+ dogs. In the past two months, 90 have been relocated within Israel to more adequate shelters. 25 have already made the trip to Canada. 150 remain. We have assembled a team in Israel to clean up the shelter and make the dogs more comfortable until we have the space to bring them here. While in Israel veterinarians will be caring for the dogs to address any immediate health concerns. Staff will be working with the dogs every day to socialize them and teach them to trust again. The dogs will no longer be eating bread. To help these dogs, we need your help. Every dog that is adopted from our rescue creates space for another of these dogs to be brought to Canada. The most important thing that we can do for these, and for all of our dogs, is to share their story and be their voice.In our most recent photos of our new dogs, a popular comment was that the dogs appear sad. La dieta de todos ya no son más barras de pan, se alimentan con lo que necesitan y los hace saludables y están aprendiendo a confiar nuevamente en los humanos.

Luego de ver ésto, podemos asegurar que la única diferencia entre el "no puedo" y el "si puedo" es la fuerza de voluntad. Si un grupo de apenas 20 personas logró ésta ENORMIDAD, qué no podríamos lograr miles unidos para ayudar....

Quieres ayudar? Pues aunque sea con muy poco, toda ayuda contribuye para que más puedan ser salvados. No dejes de acercar tu colaboración a la ONG que no supo decir que NO y le ha dado una oportunidad a 250 vidas, para salir del infierno y vivir la felicidad que siempre merecieron.
